Welcome Message

Some food for thought

You'll see in ENTR 3301 that we challenge of our basic assumptions about our present and future. For example, check out the following video which provide some real food for thought:

The Venture Design Studio

In this experiential and engaging project, you will be challenged to design the most innovative and feasible new venture ideas possible. Every three classes you submit your ventures through a collaborative web environment, do an elevator pitch in front of a panel of experienced judges and assess your own performance. The feedback and video recordings are added to the web environment for all to see and learn from. The levels of learning, competition and performance mount every iteration until the finals, where only one submission is crowned the venture with the highest potential. Check it out here and here:

The Top 3 Myths about Entrepreneurship

1. The Small Business Myth "My friend told me entrepreneurship is only for students who want to start their own business."

NOT TRUE!  Entrepreneurship is as much a state of mind as it is a set of steps for starting a business. It's critical for success whether you're managing a non-profit organization, leading a political party, working on projects in a large oil and gas company, or starting that business in pursuit of your passion.

2. The Expert Myth "Don't I need to be an expert, or have invented something in order to be an entrepreneur?"

NO!  There are many great examples of young people who's entrepreneurial spirits are changing the world as we know it. And they weren't experts until after they got started. Here are a few examples we'll see in this course:

3. The Technology Myth "Aren't entrepreneurship and innovation are all about technology?"

NO AGAIN! Entrepreneurial thinking and innovation hold an incredibly important place in our society and everyone's getting in on it. From music industry pioneers, to famous chefs, to flower shop owners and even accountants, you can't avoid entrepreneurial thinking if you want to succeed.
